ARTIST IN RESIDENCE
ARTIST IN RESIDENCE
Studio By The Track’ Artist Residency program invites local and regional artists to create new works in collaboration with and inspired by SBTT artists. The program strives to enrich the experience of artists served directly by the organization while expanding SBTT’s audience, capacity to serve, and educational and cultural offerings available to the community. The program provides creative and economic opportunities to local artists in an inclusive, supportive, nurturing environment.

WITH GIVE
WITH GIVE
‘With Give’ was an evolving, interactive exhibition that relies on community participation to be fully realized. Over the course of the exhibition, participants assisted in the natural dyeing and processing of yarn, rope, tshirts and bedsheets into strips of material that will then be woven on the BFL (Big Friendly Loom), an eight foot wide jumbo loom whose warp spans the width of The Old Bailey Gallery (17.5 feet). In addition to cooperative dyeing and weaving, several interactive soft sculptures will be available in the gallery for engagement. Through touch, participants will feel their way through making, giving, and being with one another.
“I learned how to make work that brought pleasure to myself and others...The radical acceptance I received has shifted my relationship to art making and will continue to be a fount of inspiration and confidence for years to come. In this way, SBTT has helped me to grow ever closer to my true human potential by helping me to better trust myself.”
GENTLE THINGS
GENTLE THINGS
"Gentle Things" is a collection inspired by the artists of Studio By The Tracks. During my residency, I collaborated closely with Ruth E. and Jason, whose work helped shape my own. Much of the artwork created at SBTT radiates joy and often reflects the beauty of the natural world. This experience has encouraged me to focus on the simple moments in life, like the vibrant blooms in my garden or the delicate flutter of a butterfly. Each piece serves as a gentle reminder to pause and savor these fleeting joys. In our fast-paced world, I believe we all need these reminders of the gentle things that surround us.
becoming wormtrain
becoming wormtrain
Becoming Wormtrain invites participants into a metaphorical wormhole where exchanging personal enthusiasms—whether shared or distinct— lays the tracks for connection, creativity, and inclusive, neurodivergent-affirming ways of being.
in the goo
in the goo
My time at Studio by the Tracks has been a chrysalis. Trained as an illustrator, I once worked within grids and prompts, shaping images to fit the needs of others. That structure gave me clarity, but it also kept my practice contained. Here, those walls have dissolved. Like a butterfly turning to goo in its cocoon, my process melted down into something unrecognizable. Messy. Chaotic. Alive.
