Nneka Onwuka is a Nigerian American artist born and raised in Huntsville, Alabama. Her work bridges the gap between her ancestral home in West Africa and her experience growing up in the American South. She works with fiber art, drawing, and painting, often entangling them to build tactile, reflective, and spiritually charged worlds. Her practice is driven by a desire to provoke introspection, awaken the divine inner self, and encourage liberation from societal programming. She explores how inhabiting the body with consciousness can activate personal and collective transformation.

Nature Knows Where You Are is an invitation to ground yourself in the belief that you are exactly where you need to be. This exhibition is dedicated to neurodivergent individuals that may feel out of sync with the world. I used the visual language of cartography and fiber arts to explore the dualities of traveling and dwelling. The fiber pieces is interactive and designed to be a sensory experience that honors the need for touch, and physical grounding. My hopes for this exhibition is for viewers to feel a sense of connection, belonging and knowing they’re on the right path.

may this work serve as a reminder: trust that you are not lost. Nature already knows the way.
